And apologies from me for not replying to it earlier.  There's
quite a lot in there.  I'm going to give it a bit of a thrash
in my own preferred setup (which does not involve GNOME) and
if it looks okay, I think it might be time to release v7.

Anyone else got any favourite stuff they'd like to see go in?

(I'm getting sick of having to tell people to go for the latest
development version because it's more stable than the supposedly
latest stable version...)
