ok, this was the kick i needed.

i have working support for
http://www.freedesktop.org/standards/wm-spec/ which is what
GNOME2 and kde use (haven't tested kde).

still some stuff i'd like to add, but i'm kinda stuck on one
thing:

they expect a list of client windows that is in the right
visual stacking order (bottom to top). anyone have any
ideas?

also, this breaks the GNOME1 support. does anyone care?
